JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE:        SALARIED GENERAL PRACTITIONER REPORTS TO:        THE PARTNERS (Clinically)             THE PRACTICE MANAGER ( Administratively) SESSIONS:        4 – 6 Sessions JOB SUMMARY: The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest of standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations and queries, visiting patients at home or nursing homes, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation. Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.  Screening patients for disease risk factors and early sign of illness. In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health. Providing counselling and health education. Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate. Recording clear and contemporaneous notes to agreed standards. Collecting data for audit purposes. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible) Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate. In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES WITHIN THE ORGANISATION: Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines. E.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety. A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice. Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation. Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records. Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data. Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate. Available to cover the absence (planned or unplanned) of other GP colleagues. Fair share of Extended Access Clinics. HEALTH AND SAFETY: The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health and Safety Policy, to include: Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines. Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks. Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills. Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards. Reporting potential risks identified. Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work. QUALITY: Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk. Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision. Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestion’s on ways to improve and enhance the team’s performance. Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patient’s needs. Effectively manage own time, workload and resources. COMMUNICATION: The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to: Communicate effectively with the other team members. Communicate effectively with patients and carers. Recognise people’s needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SERVICES: The post-holder will: Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance. Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work. Participate in audit where appropriate.

We are seeking a caring and committed doctor who is able to demonstrate high standards of clinical care and is willing to work as part of a highly motivated team About Us We are traditional average sized training practice of 8,500 patients and growing. We currently have 4 part-time GP Partners and 2 salaried GPs. Our clinical team also includes two Nurse Practitioners, two Practice Nurses, a Nursing Associate Apprentice and HCSW. We are welcoming new multi-disciplinary roles into the Practice such as Social Prescribers, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists and Mental Health Practitioners, and are very active within the Shrewsbury Primary Care Network. We are outgrowing our current premises, and are one of the Practices that will be re-locating to the new Shrewsbury Health & Well Being Hub in 2025. This is a really exciting opportunity to expand the services we can offer our patients, collaborate on projects with other practices locally, and provide a better working environment for our staff. We are a really friendly supportive team, high achieving QoF, with a good reputation locally for high quality care, and a Good overall CQC rating with some areas of Outstanding. Main duties of the Role The sessions required are to include a Monday, but otherwise are flexible. All our GPs, both salaried and Partners have a mixture of routine and on-call sessions, with face to face and telephone appointments. Workflow tasks like repeat prescriptions, documents and lab results are divided fairly between the GPs, as are home visits - although we have access to a Home Visiting Service so these are limited. Welshpool Medical Practice is a forward thinking two sited Practice, located on the Powys/Shropshire Border. Welshpool is a market town set in within beautiful Mid Wales, within easy commuting distance to Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Telford, and Ellesmere. Our main site is based in Welshpool, enveloped with a branch surgery nestled within the village of Guilsfield. Excellent schools and transport links. We are a Dispensing Practice with a growing list size of 11,000 patients. Modern premises. As an Advanced Training Practice, we offer opportunities to GP Registrars, Medical Students, Physician Associates and Student nurses. We are proud to be an Inspectorate Wales high achieving Practice. We provide cover to our local community hospital with its inpatient beds and MIU. There is no requirement for salaried doctors to become involved in this aspect of our rota unless it was of interest to you. Our Practice Team consists of 7 GP Partners working with wonderful Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Management Team, Pharmacy Technicians, Dispensers, Receptionists and Administrators. We are appreciative of our close working relationship with our super Health Board colleagues who are located close to the Practice.
